Arc Chutes
Switchgears are a combination of electrical disconnects, fuses and/or circuit breakers used to isolate electrical equipment. Switchgears are located where isolation and protection may be required. These locations include generators, motors, transformers, and substations.
Tenmat is specialized in repairing and refurbishing arc dividers/arc chutes used in high voltage applications. TENMAT’s range of non-asbestos, high temperature composites have proven to be successful in transportation and power switch gear applications. Our unique trademarked materials, SINDANYO®, REFRAVER® and ARCLEX® have the ability to withstand high voltage current as well as the shocks and vibrations associated with the rigors of these applications.
TRANSPORTATION SWITCHGEAR
TENMAT products are widely used in the transportation industry. SINDANYO® and ARCLEX® materials can be machined into very complicated profiles. Arc chute components made from these materials can be easily fabricated without the need for expensive tooling and therefore allow for required retro engineering when supplying spares. TENMAT composites have high mechanical strength which is valuable in resisting the demanding nature of transportation applications.
TENMAT arc chute materials are working in applications up to 11Kv/2000A AC and 3000V/1000A DC.
POWER SWITCHGEAR
Air break switchgear is a favored method of controlling high powered electrical supplies. The electric arc produced in operating the switchgear (which can produce temperatures in excess of 2000*°C) is controlled and channeled by the arc chute. Due to the arduous nature of this application high temperature resistant materials with good electrical properties must be employed.
MACHINING SERVICE
Machining should be carried out with Tungsten Carbide tipped tools for maximum longevity. Select cutting speeds to minimize heat generation. It is a normal practice to machine TENMAT materials dry with dust extraction at the cutting point. Full extraction plant or an industrial vacuum cleaner should be used.
ARCLEX is best cut wet using Tungsten Carbide or diamond tipped tooling.
